Something for hubby

June 29th, 2006

Today, I’ve decided to do something for hubby pulak. Hehe. Babsy, hope you like it. =) Let’s grow old together and watch our kid(s) and cucu(s) & cicit(s) grow up, k? xoxo
Was fiddling around with photoshop and this is the results I got. Ha-ha! Was trying very hard to recall what my lecturer taught me back in uni, and somehow managed to remember bits and pieces (I’m not a major in IT or graphics design or anywhere near that region). =) I guess this shows how “free” I am at work, ey? That’s the fun bit about working with parentals. =P Alrighty, gonna go home now and speak to caterers about Irfan’s cukur jambul ceremony.

Irfan’s mandi time

June 26th, 2006

Irfan loves bathing. On Saturday, I decided to take some photos of him “chilling” while having his bath. As you can see, he looks happy and contented. Hehe. Weekends are the only time I let him berendam like a hippo longer in his tub as on weekdays I need to rush to get ready to go to work. Sometimes he would get angry at me for cutting his joy short and would cry after I take him out of the tub. The only way to pacify him is to cuddle him and talk to him. Sigh, manja boy! =P
Our baby is getting better by the day. Alhamdulillah. He sleeps longer during the night too. Sometimes as long as 5-6 hours, which is a good thing for the parents since we can sleep longer. Hehe. This morning, he woke up at about 5.50 am for his feed and did not want to go back to sleep after that. He now likes to suck his hand, sometimes I find his mittens drenched with his saliva. So before he sleeps at night, I’d take his mitten(s) off and let him sleep. This morning, while I let him coo and laugh lying beside me, he played with my hair and sometimes he would tug my hair so hard it actually hurts! Our boy is getting stronger by the day.. *wink*

Hospital scare!

June 22nd, 2006

As I’ve written in my earlier post, Baby Irfan was purging blood and although we’ve brought him to see his paed, his condition deteriorated as of Saturday night. There was more blood than ever and it was around midnight, so we decided to wait til the next morning.

On Sunday morning, called his paed and she said to bring him over to the ER since she’d be there by noon (as she was needed in the OT around 12.30pm). We brought lil’ Irfan, together with his stool samples and got him checked up. 5 minutes later, she said that she wants him to be admitted under 24 hours observation. Paediatric floor was full (can u imagine??) hence he was warded on the adult’s floor. Irwan wanted to claim his insurance for this, but was declined as AIA stated that there is a 30 days grace period; meaning that Irfan is not covered from 28th May til 27th June 2006. They said that only if it is an accident can they cover him. WTC? We understand the whole “grace period” thing, but if anyone were to use his or her common sense, food poisoning is not intentional! Dammit!!! Oh well, we did not want to argue further, so we just paid ourselves. OUCH!!!

Before arriving at his ward, we had to make a pit stop for Irfan’s blood sample to be taken. Poor fella was so tensed that when the needle was pricked on his heels, the lab guy could not get much blood from there. So, he had to prick his thumb pulak. Sigh. Pity our baby. Thank god he wasn’t screaming or yelling or anything close to that region. Upon arriving at his ward, he was already restless as it was almost 3pm and the last milk he had was before we arrived at SJMC. His paed said that he’s only allowed to have his Oral Rehydration Salt (ORS) and as we waited and waited, no ORS came. When his paed visited him, we asked for it again from her and the nurse who accompanied her said that we had just arrived, therefore they’ve only ordered the ORS. Mind you, we were in the ward before 3pm and his paed visited us at about 4.45pm. If I wasn’t busy pacifying our baby, I’d have given the nurse a piece of my mind!!! 15 minutes later, the ORS arrived and Irfan gulped down 240ml of it in no time (he likes it because it has an orangey flavour). We were told to give him a new milk (Isomil – soya milk) at about 7pm. Irfan quite likes the milk, unlike the previous Bebelac one.

Next day, we were told to wait until evening before Irfan could be discharged (by this time I was bored to tears staying at the hospital, thank god Irwan was there to accompany me!) and was also told that the results of his stool samples would be gotten on either Wednesday/Thursday. Evening came and we had to stay another night. Got tired of hospital food, so Irwan’s mom brought us dinner. Yum! Ha-ha!

On Tuesday morning, we waited for his paed to give us the go, but unfortunately, it was not to be. They chased after the lab and managed to get his stool results and they found salmonella in it. Poor Irfan. Must’ve gotten it while we were preparing his milk. I felt really bad for him, but what happened has happened, so we’ve just got to be extra careful next time. He has got to be jabbed once on Tuesday and next one on Wednesday before being discharged. By this time, his tiny body has been poked thrice by the needle (twice for blood sample and once for insertion of Vitamin K)! Aiyo, poor boy. I wasn’t around when the nurse jabbed him as I had to go home and get the three of us some fresh clothes. But Irwan called me to say that Irfan did cry as he was asleep when the nurse came and was shocked to feel a needle poking into him. *sob sob*

By Wednesday, my limit for tolerating the student nurses at SJMC was running thin. I can’t understand why the hospital had to send student nurses to give injections to babies. I mean, can’t they learn to give injections to adults? Our poor baby was crying and screaming in pain when the nurse jabbed him (which took eternity!), and as though that wasn’t enough, when the needle went in, she had to turn the syringe 360 degrees (for god knows why!) and took forever to have the liquid in his system. God, if I wasn’t so concerned about Irfan, I’d have told the nurse off. I mean, when he gets his monthly jab from his paed, he doesn’t even cry because it just happens so fast. But while at the hospital, he was crying every time the nurse jabbed him. I forgot to mention that when they wanted to jab him with Vitamin K, they made me turn him around (to jab his thigh) and was so rough with him that he was scared and was shocked and in the end, everyone was upset (including MIL). Sheeeesssshhh! My mom told me to report the incidents to the nurse manager, but we were just so busy that we didn’t get round to doing so, although I did mention the Vitamin K injection incident to his paed.

We were all so relieved to be going home, and baby Irfan’s stool is getting better by the day. He still needs to drink Isomil until his next monthly visit (which is in 2 weeks’ time) and take his ORS as well as his colic fluids (which he doesn’t seem to mind whenever we give him) and also his probiotics (which we mix together with his ORS). He wet our bed though last night as he had too much to drink, but other than that, things are going well on his side. Alhamdulillah.

This morning, he poo-ed and his stool look normal. Let’s hope it stays that way. *grin*

Information on Salmonellosis
Salmonellosis is an infection with a bacteria called Salmonella. Most persons infected with Salmonella develop diarrhoea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most persons recover without treatment. However, in some persons the diarrhoea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalised. In these patients, the Salmonella infection may spread from the intestines to the blood stream, and then to other body sites and can cause death unless the person is treated promptly with antibiotics. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.

Bacterial infection

June 15th, 2006

Our poor baby caught the infection and was poo-ing non-stop and the worst part is that his stool was mixed together with some blood. I panicked yesterday and called his paed and she said to dilute his milk and monitor him for the day. As of this morning, he was still purging badly, hence a visit to the hospital was needed. His paed prescribed bebelac lactose free as well as some hydration salt and some pills (forgot the name). Got home and gave him his medicines and although he didn’t quite like the taste, our strong boy didn’t cry, but just made some faces. =) The best part is that we know he’s in pain and we feel the pain for him, yet he doesn’t cry and kick up a fuss about it. The only thing he does to show his discomfort is by making his body all tensed up. Poor boy. Get well soon, buddy! Love, papa & mama.

Aunt Azlin’s Engagement

June 12th, 2006

It was Aunt Azlin’s engagement last Saturday and she looked absolutely stunning that night! Although I was asleep the whole time and was passed on to numerous people who thought I was cute, I literally slept the whole way through the ceremony! Congratulations again Aunt Azlin and Uncle Yan! Can’t wait to have friends to play with. You know what I mean, yah? *wink*

Before & after

June 8th, 2006

Pictures were taken before and after I gave Irfan his bath this morning. Initially he was happy being up and about until he dozed off right before I put the camera down. After bath, he was still happy and alert, so I took some more photos of him. I guess, after a while, he got tired and hungry and started to “jebek” and towards the end, was wailing! Ha-ha! Love you, buddy! =)

2 months old

June 7th, 2006

Happy 2 months old, buddy! Sorry mommy is a bit late. Been busy running around doing chores and taking care of you. =) Lots of love, Papa & Mama
Yesterday, we brought Irfan to see his paediatrician to get his second month jab. As always, I was the one feeling nervous for him. Ha-ha! Anyways, to cut a long story short, Irfan was fine being jabbed and did not even cry!!!! Well, he did wrinkle his foreheadlah, but that was about it. We were all amazed at our “strong” boy.

weight: 6.10 kg (at 1 month it was 4.70 kg)
height: 59 cm (at 1 month it was 53 cm)
